For our December camping this year, we took off up the California Coast to the Kirk Creek NFS campground, about 80 miles from SLO. We last visited Kirk Creek NFS campground on the beautiful the Big Sur Coast of California several years ago. Kirk Creek, along with Plaskett Creek, have been our favorites for many years, camping with our kids and grandchildren. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon to beautiful blue sky and enjoyed the high surf crashing next to the campground and stayed for three nights.

The second day was overcast, but very pleasant temperatures until evening when the predicted rains started with drizzle. Then, it rained hard all night, with the noise from the large waves overpowered the rain!

The day after the rain was clear and beautiful. We hiked one of our favorite hikes from the campground, Vincente Flat Trail.
