Back into dry California!

We left South Beach Campground in Oregon, drove down highway 101 to Florence, Oregon and drove inland to catch Interstate 5. Following the GPS, we were “told” to turn on Territorial Road to go around Eugene, it looked shorter on the map too. Well, it is a great road for the BMW, not so much for the Tundra pulling the Airstream! Although a beautiful country road, it was very narrow, very curvy, and rough in many sections. We kept saying, it’s got to get better, but it didn’t.

Finally we found the freeway and stayed in the Railroad RV park near Dunsmuir, California for the next two nights. It was recommended by our Airstream friends and was a fun stop for a couple nights. We explored Castle Crags State Park the next day.

The next day we drove home taking Interstate 680 around San Francisco, what terribly rough roads! Having traveled 4,600 miles through 8 states, these roads were some of the roughest we encountered. Maybe they will be better next time through!

We’re all cleaned up and ready for Zion National Park, Utah in September. Ari ll worked great except for a couple of gremlins in Cedar Breaks National Monument, it could be the 10,500 ft. Elevation though…

Back into the US and down the Left Coast

We left Vancouver and crossed the border back into the US at Aldergrove, a smaller border crossing. They even let us back into the States!

We stayed one night in Lacey, Washington, near Olympia, at the Washington Land Yacht Harbor before driving to Corvallis, Oregon to visit with Lu and Joe for a few days. Their garden…

Our next stop was South Beach State Park near Newport, Oregon to camp for three nights. We camped again with Lu and Joe and explored the Oregon Coast.

Vancouver, BC, Canada

Our next stop was Vancouver. We found another urban campground in Burnaby, 20 minutes from downtown by the Skytrain, a commuter train for the Vancouver area. The campground was built for Expo ’86 in Vancouver, explains why it was so tight. Many of the people staying at the campground hopped on the train each morning to explore Vancouver.

Here’s the Burnaby Cariboo RV Park and Campground.

The weather was hot and clear for the two days we were in Vancouver. We
walked all over the city exploring all the neat places and parks. Here are some of our many images…

Revelstoke, BC, Canada

Judy and I left Lu and Joe and headed west through the Canadian Rockies to Revelstoke. The trip was beautiful, through high mountain passes, along rivers, and along huge lakes that stretched for miles. We stayed in a funky, tight, but very clean RV park in a residential area about a mile from the downtown. Most of the people just stayed a night, we stayed two to explore the area.

Here are images from the campground, town center, and our bike ride into the countryside.

Lake Louise in Banff National Park, BC, Canada

We left Radium with the weather getting cooler, actually colder the closer we got to Lake Louise. The drive was beautiful with new snow on the mountain tops and showers lower.

image

The campground was large with two sites together and lots of space between. There were showers when we arrived but not enough to slow us down  much.

The next day was overcast, spitting rain, but nice for hiking.

We started at Lake Louise and hiked 5 1/2 miles to the tea house at Lake Agnes, a 1,300 ft. climb with beautiful views and cold winds!

Later that day we drove to Moraine Lake and hiked along the shore.

The following day the weather changed again, it’s the mountains, and we had sunny and warm conditions. Before heading to Takakkaw Falls, we stopped by Lake Louise for a sunny image.

Takakkaw Falls in in Yoho National Park, a 30 minute drive from Lake Louise. We hiked from Takakkaw to Laughing Falls, a couple hours up,the trail. Here are some images from the hike.

On to Radium Hot Springs, BC, Canada

Off we went early the next morning for Radium Hot Springs. The day started smokey but cleared the closer we got to Canada. We made it through customs quickly with our bottles of California Wine for Steve and Donna.

The Canadian Rockies are sure beautiful and rugged. Our digs were fancier than we were used to but walking distance to Steve and Donna’s place.

We explored the area for the next week… a great time at the Bremer’s!

Lake Mary Ronan State Park

Getting caught up…

image

From here we traveled north to Lake Mary Ronan State Park, a lakeside park south of Kalispell, Montana. It is near the very large Flathead Lake to the east. The two days we were there, there was a lot of smoke in the area from the numerous fires to the west. At the campsite, the smoke wasn’t too bad, a beautiful place to spend a couple of days.
